Caste Consciousness

Recognizing the need to also engage those not on the margins, we launched caste-consciousness workshops and toolkits, establishing 25 chapters across India, reaching over 2,000 non-marginalized youth advocating for caste consensus to ensure better representation and opportunities for the marginalised castes. Post-program surveys reflected a measurable shift: participants demonstrated deeper understanding of caste discrimination and a collective resolve to dismantle it.

Building Pathways to Sustained Livelihoods

We organise upskilling programs in tailoring, beauty, and computer literacy, to open pathways of dignified livelihood. So far we have supported 120 youth and 72 women—increasing incomes and modeling self-reliance in their communities. Additionally we have made economic mobility schemes of the Government of India accessible to over 500 youths.

About

People’s Collectives is a youth-led initiative forging an anti-caste future by advancing narrative justice, legal empowerment, and entrepreneurial opportunities to help the most marginalized escape discriminatory systems and poverty.

Rationale

Misrepresented as a vocational hierarchy, but in reality a pervasive system defining identity, limiting access, and legitimizing oppression.

Dismantling caste is a shared struggle:

  • For the oppressed → fight for dignity and equal citizenship
  • For dominant groups → recognition of complicity, unlearning bias, and rebuilding equity

What do we do?

  • Bring Narrative justice by amplifying Dalit voices to reclaim history and decenter caste hegemony
  • Create opportunities for the marginalized youth to gain financial freedom and economic mobility
  • Engage non-minority youth in understanding their contribution to the problem and advocate for liberation and equality

How do we do it?

  • Support Dalit-youth led oral history and impact projects via micro-grants
  • Build archive of Dalit literature and multimedia—featuring three digital exhibits inviting audiences to engage with the Dalit experience
  • Upskilling courses, supporting entrepreneurial ventures and accessibility to government schemes.
  • Caste Consciousness Clubs and awareness campaigns in collaboration with schools and NGOs
